A concert was staged on the right bank of Jinji Lake in SIP on the evening of Oct 6 to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival which, reckoned on the fifteenth day of the eighth month on the Chinese lunar calendar, fell on the day this year.
The event was also part of the “Autumn Night in SIP” performing program which consists of a series of open-air shows scheduled on weekend evenings for the public.
The event peaked during a singalong when the opening notes of “Sweet Honey” and “The Moon Represents My Heart” sounded and the venue transformed into a shimmering starscape.
“The concert series have deepened my connection to Suzhou,” said a Malaysian expatriate who has lived in SIP for 23 years.
In addition to professional performers, many amateurs including office workers, urban planners and teachers gained the opportunity of performing at the event through online auditions. Their authentic performances, driven by pure passion for music, became the most touching highlight of the event.
