Nexteer Automotive, a Michigan-based maker of steering and drive-line systems for autos, received the permit for building its Asia-Pacific R&D and intelligent manufacturing headquarters in SIP on Nov 12, only six workdays after land use contract signing thanks to the efficient support from local authorities.

Nexteer Automotive, with AVIC Automobile Industry Holding Co Ltd as the majority stockholder, supplies electric power steering systems, steer-by-wire systems, drive-line systems and software solutions to over 60 clients worldwide, including BMW, Ford, GM and BYD. With 26 manufacturing sites, 5 technical centers and 13 customer service centers globally, it reported operating income of USD4.3 billion last year. The company established its first plant in SIP in 2007, which has since evolved into a comprehensive base encompassing manufacturing, R&D and management.
The new project, with a total investment of RMB1 billion, will be set up in APP Science & Technology Park, boasting a total land area of approximately 158 mu (10.53 hectares) and a total floor area of over 70,000 square meters.
Scheduled to come into operation in July 2026, the new site will introduce the latest electric power steering and steer-by-wire technologies to meet demand in the sectors of new energy vehicles and autonomous driving. After the new facility reaches the designed capacity, Nexteer’s total output value in SIP is expected to exceed RMB10 billion.
